The Gold Rod Bass Club was formed in June 1997 in LaPlace, Louisiana, initiated by Eric Parquet.  Ten men initially came together to form the club, which has now grown in membership.

The objectives of the club include sharing bass catching techniques, promoting "catch and release" among bass fishermen, stimulating public awareness and support of bass club fishing and promoting and encouraging youth fishing.
